'Name the Festival' competition closes Friday
Rotorua residents have until the end of the week to come up with a new name for the city's inaugural three-day new year festival replacing the former New Year's Eve Mardi Gras.
Entries to Rotorua District Council's 'Name the Festival' competition close on Friday [14 September].
The event will commence at midday on 30 December 2012 and finish on 1 January 2013, and will include music, a range of different arts and street theatre, night markets, food, fireworks and much more.
RDC major events coordinator Kylie Lang says the festival needs a local feel so the name should reflect Rotorua's uniqueness.
"It's about the Rotorua community being part of this exciting new event, and a way to start this is by letting the public come up with the festival's name. It's a great opportunity for a local person to come up with a name that reflects local talent and what is new for 2013 in Rotorua."
The person who comes up with the winning name will be rewarded with vouchers for two of Rotorua's latest tourist attractions, Rotorua Canopy Tours' zipline tour and Rainbow Springs' recently completed Big Splash eco-tour.
Entries should be email to Kylie on kylie.lang@rdc.govt.nz by Friday 14 September.
