Artist Nigel Brown talks about his inspiring career
New Zealand artist Nigel Brown is hosting an exclusive floor talk on Sunday 15 July at 2pm at Rotorua Museum.
The talk, part of the Friends of Rotorua Museum art lecture series, will take place surrounded by his thought provoking exhibition, Travel to Travel, which is open until 5 August.
Nigel Brown is acknowledged as a leading narrative artist whose distinctive works use a blend of symbolic and expressionistic approaches to voice deep social concern.
Brown's aim is to see the humanity' in other cultures and believes travel is the chance to experience stimulating new things; to learn, to expand himself and absorb influences.
Employing history, literature and politics as devices to draw attention to individual and environmental issues, Nigel Brown conveys emotional and intuitive sympathy within the confines of the works in an accurate and incisive reading of the human condition.
A feature artwork in Travel to Travel is the dynamic Never Give Up (1999-2000). Nearly 2.5m wide, this large piece depicts Nigel Brown's journey to Antarctica in 1998 as part of the inaugural Artists to Antarctica scheme.
In this talk Brown will give an insight into his life as a travelling artist and the stories behind the exhibition.
Entry is $5 plus museum admission, which is free for Rotorua residents with ID. This event is free for Friends of Rotorua Museum members.
