Topic: Restructure of council executive roles
Enquiry
I am aware there is a planned restructuring of the deputy chief executives. I was wondering whether the CE would have ten minutes to sit down with me and explain it all?
Subsequent from reporter:
I am aware there will be three group managers and two executive managers. The role of community well-being DCE will be split among these.
- What will happen to the current employee in this role?
- What cost savings are expected under this restructure?
- The last restructure cost about $50,000, what is this one likely to cost?
- What influence did community criticism of the structure have on this change?

Response
Initial response provided:
The CE is happy to have a sit down with you once the internal process that is currently still underway has been completed. We’ll get in touch with you at the appropriate time. In the meantime, he has provided the following statement:
From CE Geoff Williams:
With a new Council and a new set of priorities, we have an opportunity for a refresh and this is a continuation of ongoing efficiencies we’ve been tasked with finding.
An internal change process is underway to ensure we continue to have an efficient and cost-effective structure to support the effective delivery of services, work programmes and projects that align with this Council’s direction and priorities.
The new executive structure will see three group managers, aligned with the committees of Council, and two executive directors, one responsible for the Te Arawa Partnership and the other responsible for Governance, corporate planning, engagement and marketing and communications.
There will be further work to make sure our organisation aligns with this new executive structure.
As the process is still underway it’s not appropriate to comment further at this stage but we will be happy to share the outcome once the process is complete.
In response to the subsequent questions:
As per the statement provided, as the process is still underway it’s not appropriate to comment further at this stage but we will be happy to share the outcome once the process is complete.
