Topic: Fatal crash on Lake Road
Enquiry
I am following up on the fatal motorcycle crash that happened on Lake Rd near the intersection of Bennet Rd yesterday.
Many residents are coming forward saying that the intersection is "really dangerous" and an "awful area to turn". They've said something like lights or a roundabout is needed. I have copied some of the comments from people below.
Questions:
- Has this particular section of road been on the radar of the council in relation to safety, prior to the crash?
- Following the accident, will the council investigate the intersection? When will this be and what will the council be looking for to determine its safety?
- Would the council consider making safety changes to the intersection, such as a roundabout or traffic lights? What else may be considered?
Any other comments are welcome.
Response
From Rotorua Lakes Council:
Re Has this particular section of road been on the radar of the council in relation to safety, prior to the crash? No
Re other questions, see below
Until police conclude their investigation into the crash to see what caused the incident it would be premature of council to begin any investigation. Once police assess the factors contributing to the incident any outcomes/recommendations will be considered as required in due course.

Enquiry
Reporter following up from previous enquiry regarding liquor licence for Ambrosia:
… we're running this one today now. Can I please just get a stamp of approval that this line from [DCE Community Wellbeing] Anaru [Pewhairangi] is still valid for this week, or is it no longer in the public notification period? The new application is currently within the public notification period. Given this and its place in the process an estimated timeframe, or confirmation of the outcome cannot be provided.
Response
We provided the following information:
Public notification ends at close of business tomorrow (16 August). So, the statement is still accurate.
