Rural waste service extension to be considered at full council meeting
What has happened already?
Supported by the Rural Community Board, Council undertook community consultation with Ngākuru, Horohoro and Upper Ātiamuri, in July. We wanted to understand if households supported/did not support the extension of Council waste services to their communities.
You can read more about this consultation here.
The Rural Community Board were presented with a report on the rural waste consultation on 16 August, and made a recommendation that the Strategy, Policy & Finance Committee recommend that Council approve the extension of services, to start in early 2022.
What happens next?
If the Council approves extending the service planning will start to implement it from early 2022.
How is it being funded?
Waste collection is funded across the district by a targeted rate that all ratepayers who receive the service pay ($221.27 per year). Properties in the Ngākuru, Horohoro and Upper Ātiamuri areas will be charged the same targeted rate.
