Drainage Faults
Council sewerage reticulation maintenance staff are available 24 hours a day to attend to drainage faults in the wastewater reticulation network.
Drainage faults, blockages and sewage overflows on private property are generally the responsibility of the property owner.
Where the source of the fault is not clear, the property owner should engage a drainlayer to expose the inspection point (usually 0.5m inside the property boundary) and determine the source.
If the drainlayer determines that the fault lies within the public sewer, the property owner should contact Council. The owner is eligible for reimbursement, on written application and copy of the payment made to the drainlayer.
Council keeps records of each service connection location - that is, the point where the service connection enters the property boundary from the public main - and can provide this information on request.
Council also maintains a Property File for each property. Most files contain a drawing of the wastewater drainage arrangements.
