A recent review of New Zealand's alcohol laws has resulted in a new Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act that will replace the Sale of Liquor Act 1989. This means the new rules for liquor licensing will be determined in the next 12 months or so following the passing of the new Act.
Changes will include
- Annual licensing fee
- A new fees system based on risk
- Establishment of a Alcohol Regulatory Licensing Authority (ARLA)
- District Licensing Committees (DLC's)
- New, broader criteria for granting and objecting to licences
- Local Alcohol Policies (LAP's)
- Liquor licences bound to maximum default trading hours
