Sign up for emergency text alerts

Rotorua residents can now sign up to receive free civil defence emergency text alerts. The alerts will let you know if there’s a significant emergency in the region.

You won’t get inundated with texts as the system is only used for significant threats to life or property where time is critical. The media, website and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter will continue to be used for other alerts, warnings and general information.

Free sign up to this service is available on the the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group website.

Television

In a civil defence emergency and if you are able, you can tune into TVNZ and TV3 for updates about what's happening around you.

Facebook

Social media helps many people to keep in touch and also keeps people posted on what's happening.  Facebook is also a good resource to help people in an emergency.

You can keep an eye out on the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence page or the Rotorua Lakes Council's Facebook page
