I refer to your online Official Information request of 19 August 2022 for the following information regarding Protocol meetings held this triennium (starting 12/10/19):
- Date of meeting
- Attendance record
- Reason for meeting occurring
- Topics discussed
- Decisions/directions/instructions passed to council staff in or as a result of the meeting
- Any guidelines/standards under which these meetings occur
With reference to bullet point 6, Council has established a number of memorandum of understanding/protocols with iwi. There are current agreements with the following iwi:
- Ngāti Rangiteaorere
- Ngāti Rangiwewehi
- Ngāti Waoku
- Ngāti Whakaue Gifted Reserves
- Tapuika
- Tūhourangi
Copies of these memorandum of understanding/protocol agreements are attached.
In addition, there are protocol/agreements regarding the care of taonga/wāhi tapu with:
- Kauae Cemetery Trust Board
- Pukaki ki Rotorua Charitable Trust
Copies of these documents are attached. Note: The Kauae Cemetery Trust Board document is not an agreement, it is a Court Order.
We also have joint management / co-governance relationships (per settlement legislation) with:
- Raukawa Charitable Trust
- Te Arawa River Iwi Trist (TARIT)

Finally, there are co-governance committees that RLC participate in. However, these are joint committees of RLC and BOP Regional Council; they are established by legislation and not pursuant to an agreement between RLC and iwi:
