Subject: Official Information Request - Council Money
I refer to your Official Information request of 16 May 2026 for information regarding Council money.
Questions:
- Does council have any money in savings or term deposits or the equivalent.
- If yes, how much and how long is it parked for?
Answer:
Council does not hold long term cash investments. As Council primarily receives its rates revenue in quarterly instalments cash may be put on short term deposit to earn interest until the amounts will be spent but these are predominantly on terms of less than 90 days.
Council is required under its treasury policy to hold cash and committed facilities to a level that enables it to cover its short-term liabilities, but these are not classed as savings, as the cash balances are used throughout the year.
