Subject: Official Information Request - Council Housing Rates
I refer to your Official Information request of 26 May 2026 for information regarding Council housing rents.
Questions:
- The average weekly rent charged for any council-owned pensioner, elder, or community housing as at 27 November 2023, or the closest date that average was recorded.
- The average weekly rent charged for the same housing portfolio as at 26 May 2026, or the most recent date at which the average was recorded.

Additional Information:
Please note that from 1 July 2026, Council will be implementing a new approach to setting rent for its pensioner housing units. This is on the basis that portfolio requires ratepayer subsidy and is not financially sustainable. The new approach is set out below.
- Rent for tenants solely reliant on superannuation will be set at a level that maximises their entitlement for the accommodation supplement (currently this is $252 for an individual)
- Rent for All other tenants will be charged a market rent
