Local Water Done Well workshop - part 1
A workshop to help determine Council’s preferred option for the future delivery of water, wastewater and stormwater services in Rotorua started today.
The workshop will continue tomorrow, Wednesday 5 March 2025, at the conclusion of tomorrow’s Council meeting which is expected to finish at about 2pm.
Rotorua Lakes Council needs to decide how it will deliver water, wastewater and stormwater services in future under Local Water Done Well, the Government’s plan for managing water services delivery and infrastructure.
Councils must consult their communities on their preferred option.
Today elected members heard from representatives from the Department of Internal Affairs (which is administering the implementation of Local Water Done Well), the Commerce Commission (which will be responsible for economic regulation) and New Zealand’s water services authority Taumata Arawai (responsible for monitoring drinking water standards and new wastewater discharge standards to be implemented later this year).
Council staff also presented to elected members on the options available to the council.
Council will consult on a preferred option soon to help with final decision-making.
