Enquiry
When I was recently in Rotorua I tried to pay at a parking machine twice and my card was declined. However, both attempts were charged to my card. I’m sorting this out with i-park, but the reporter in me wonders whether this is a more systematic problem.
Can you speak with council’s parking manager and ask if they have received any complaints about residents being charged for parking they believed had been declined/cancelled?
Are they aware of any issue which might have resulted in a case like mine?
Do they have faith that the machines are working correctly?
Response
We confirmed that this is not a systemic issue but an isolated incident. We noted that without specific details, it is difficult to determine the exact cause for the reporter’s situation.
For context we noted that over 15,000 card payments were successfully processed at meters in October, with no other reported issues.
Additionally, the card payment system operates independently of the meters, indicating no overarching problem with either system.
