I just wanted to reach out to possibly get some reaction for a story I am working on.

We recently received data (see attached, named Auckland CCTV Business Break-in data) that shows that Rotorua had the highest proportion of business/commercial break-ins by population compared to the rest of the country over the last year, at 40.3 break-ins per 10,000 residents.

Of course, I am aware of the recent CCTV initiative underway in the region and the effects that is having on wider crime.

Would a spokesperson for the council like to comment on whether the data has any accuracy, what it means for businesses in the region, and how the council hopes the initiative will support the reduction in crime?

From a Council Spokesperson:

Regarding the accuracy of the data, you would need to get that verified by the police. As for our CCTV initiative, we collaborate closely with law enforcement and provide footage upon request to assist in identifying individuals involved in criminal activities. This support has contributed to successful prosecutions.

Finally, business confidence is high in Rotorua at present, as evidenced in the latest Rotorua Business Pulse Report with businesses expecting the economic situation in our city to continue improving over the next 12 months.
