Rotorua Aquatic Centre opening postponed
The opening of the Rotorua Aquatic Centre tomorrow (Monday) has been postponed until further notice.
While running the leisure pool system over the last couple of days, a problem was encountered this evening which means the pool can’t be heated to the required temperature.
Rotorua Lakes Council Group Manager Infrastructure & Environment, Stavros Michael, says the team have been working hard to open the indoor facility.
“It’s unfortunate that we have encountered an issue with the leisure pool while our teams were working over the weekend to get the Rotorua Aquatic Centre up and running for the community.
“Our contractors are working as quickly as they can to rectify the issue with the leisure pool. A full assessment of the problem will take place, and we will have a better understanding on Tuesday of when the problem will be fixed. From there, we can reschedule the opening.
“Our team are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the Aquatic Centre and although this further delay isn’t ideal, we want to ensure that everything is working as it should before we open to avoid any closures further down the line.”
Council will be able to provide an update within the next two days.
The outdoor 50m heated pool is still open for use in the mean time.
