Statement from Rotorua Mayor Tania Tapsell
Statement from Rotorua Mayor Tania Tapsell:
12 September 2023
Having spent the last 10 years as Chief Executive of Rotorua Lakes Council, Geoff Williams has announced his retirement from the role.
Mayor Tania Tapsell supports his resignation, and says “As well as leading our staff and organisation, he also developed positive and constructive relationships with iwi, Government agencies, and other community partners during his time as our Chief Executive. We thank Geoff for his contribution to our community, and support his decision to retire.”
Geoff acknowledges the Mayor and Councillor’s support for this decision, and believes the considerable capability of the Council’s senior leadership team will mean that current priorities and work programmes will continue to be delivered.
Geoff intends, over the next few months, to take time to spend with family before deciding what lies ahead.
Mayor Tapsell confirmed that an interim Chief Executive will be appointed to ensure a smooth transition, while the recruitment of a new Chief Executive is completed.
