Topic: Booster seats for Sir Howard Morrison Centre
Enquiry
A Rotorua woman who is 146cm tall, contacted Fair Go about a situation she had in Wellington recently, where she was told by a theatre that they didn’t allow the use of cushions or booster seats.
The woman ended up having to stand throughout the performance because she couldn’t see.
The lady contacted SHMC about attending shows there and was given assurances that she is welcome to use a cushion and that the centre is sourcing booster seats to offer in the future.
Fair Go requested the Mayor for an interview on the topic.
The questions:
-Why is it important to the centre that it has booster seats available to the community?
-How do you make this work with your health and safety requirements?
Response
Fair Go was not able to give a date for when this episode will air. Mayor Tapsell commented as follows:
Mayor Tapsell highlighted the importance of ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience the great shows that come to the Sir Howard Morrison Centre and that the Centre’s teams are well trained in evacuation processes and procedures should an emergency occur.
