Mayor Tapsell announces Council's priorities
Mayor Tapsell said the setting of the priorities by elected members followed a rigorous two-month induction programme and represented a re-set and realignment for elected members and the council organisation “to focus on the future we’d like to achieve together”.
She explained that central to the priorities for elected members are a positive relationship with the council organisation, prudent financial management, authentic engagement and communication, genuine partnership with iwi and mana whenua, being trusted stewards of resources and sound, responsible, well-informed decision-making.
The priorities will guide next year’s annual planning process and ensure the council organisation is set up to deliver on the areas of focus, Mayor Tapsell said.

A report to Council for today’s meeting noted the priorities are based on the induction programme, election campaign experiences and alignment of challenges faced by the council organisation and Rotorua, as outlined in the 2022 Pre-Election Report.
Having formally endorsed the priorities, as presented by Mayor Tapsell, Council also directed officers to develop and bring back to them the work programme and/or workstreams that will demonstrate progress towards the delivery of the priorities.
Future financial considerations will be required when the work programme is defined and delivery of the work programme required.
