Topic: Houses used as commercial premises
Enquiry
Reporter sought updated number of houses in Rotorua that are used as commercial premises as opposed to being lived in. The figure previously provided, in 2019, was 180.
Response
We provided the following information:
There are approximately 171 houses being used for commercial purposes in Rotorua ie 171 properties that have the property category as residential and are rated as commercial.
Please note, this excludes homes that people live in and also operate a business out of so it’s just those houses that are used, in their entirety, as business premises.

Topic: Diwali Rotorua event
Enquiry
I'm getting in touch about doing a preview on the Diwali Rotorua event coming up on December 1. I've popped a few questions below - if it's possible to have some comments through by Monday or Tuesday that would be awesome.
- What will the Diwali celebration at the Rotorua Night Market include?
- Why do you think this will be a great night out for families/why do you encourage people to come along?
- What has the response/involvement been like from the local Indian community?
- Why do you think celebrating different cultures as a community is important?
- Is there anything you would like to add?
Response
Please find below responses that can be attributed to Rotorua Lakes Council, Director of Events, Joelene Elliott:
What has the response/involvement been like from the local Indian community?
The BOP (Rotorua) Indian Association are so passionate about sharing their culture with the local community and really lead the Diwali event each year
Why do you think celebrating different cultures as a community is important? Rotorua is such a multi-cultural city and it is wonderful to learn more about the different cultures living here. It will be a fantastic evening alongside our Night Market.
We provided the reporter with contact details for the BOP (Rotorua) Indian Association to respond to the remaining questions.
