Subject: Information request - Rotorua motels providing emergency accommodation
I refer to your information request of 18 November 2022 regarding the Rotorua motels currently providing emergency accommodation and awaiting the outcome of an RMA haring to change their use to permanent accommodation (for a few years). Your request was processed under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act.
- Are each of these notified motels currently compliant in regards their permitting under the existing RDC ordinances?
The current use of the motels does not comply with the Resource Management Act in terms of the District Plan. This is the reason for the resource consent applications currently being considered.
- Has Worksafe issued any concerns in regards to individual property’s safety compliance to date? And if so what are those concerns?
No correspondence has been received from Worksafe in regard to any of these motels.
- If these properties are not currently compliant ie are being contracted for services provision outside of their current permitting allows, what is the situation in regards their insurance cover? Who if anybody would field the liability of payout should there be a claim?
Individual property owners/operators are responsible for insurance at their property.
