Enquiry
I am working on a story about what resources from the Police Retail Crime Prevention Fund have been allocated to businesses in the Bay of Plenty.
I know I touched base with you regarding bollard installation back in August but I thought I would check in again.
Here: Bay councils report increase in requests for bollards outside businesses - NZ Herald
What is council noticing in regard to applications for bollards installation outside businesses? Has there been any increase in interest or requests since August? Are you able to provide any figures to show this change?
Response
From Director Infrastructure and Environmental, Regan Fraser:
Since [your] last enquiry in August 2022, Council received one general enquiry for bollard installation (which was not followed up with an application to install bollards), so no increase overall in bollard installation in the last two months.
As mentioned previously, most bollards in the CBD are installed within private property (such as the doorway of a business premise) and therefore do not require approval from Council’s road corridor team to install.
In some instances, resource consent may be required for bollard installation, so we encourage those wanting to look into security measures for their premise to contact Council to discuss security options. Our Customer Centre is available 24/7 on 07 348 4199 if a premise would like to enquire about bollard installation.
