New mayor, councillors and community board members sworn in
Mayor Tapsell makes inaugural speech
Rotorua’s newly elected Mayor, councillors and community board members were sworn in at the inaugural Council meeting of the 2022-25 triennium today.
A pōhiri was held before the meeting.
The meeting itself was opened by CE Geoff Williams with the new Mayor, Tania Tapsell, then sworn in and taking the chair to preside over the rest of the meeting.
Mayor Tania Tapsell made an inaugural speech and then invited each councillor and community board member to make and sign their declaration. (Watch the Mayor's speech by clicking on the image below.)
The meeting also included the Council affirming the appointment by the Mayor of Councillor Sandra Kai Fong as Deputy Mayor.
Elected members also received a report overviewing key legislation elected members need to be aware of and have an understanding of as part of their roles, and they adopted the schedule of Council meetings for the balance of 2022.
