Candidates standing in the 2022 Rotorua Lakes Council election
Candidate nominations for the 2022 Rotorua Lakes Council election closed at noon on Friday 12 August and you can view the final candidates HERE.
Nominations were received for all positions as follows:
- Mayor (1 vacancy) = 7 nominations received
- Māori Ward (3 vacancies) = 6 nominations received
- General Ward (6 vacancies) = 19 nominations received
- Rural Ward (1 vacancy) = 2 nominations received
- Lakes Community Board (4 vacancies) = 4 nominations received
- Rural Community Board (4 vacancies) = 4 nominations received
Voting papers and candidate handbooks
Rotorua residents will receive voting papers and candidate handbooks (which include information about each candidate) in the mail from mid-September. Election Day is Saturday 8 October and voting closes at 12noon. Voting papers can be posted back to Council or dropped off at one of the ballot boxes located around the district prior to 12noon on Saturday 8 October.
‘Meet the candidates’ sessions
If you’re interested in meeting the candidates running for Rotorua Lakes Council, keep an eye on local newspapers and social media for what’s happening in your community. Community organisations will often arrange “meet the candidates” sessions.
[s]elect app
Council has partnered with local app developers Salt + Tonic to launch the new [s]elect app for the upcoming local election. The app will profile all candidates running for Rotorua Lakes Council and voters will be able to send candidates questions via the app to learn more about their policies and what they stand for. Questions and answers will be visible to all app users.
The app will be available to download on App Store, Google Play, and also as a web download, from Monday 22 August.
