Moving back to red COVID-19 setting
The Prime Minister has today announced that the whole of New Zealand is moving to the Red traffic light setting from 11.59pm tonight (Sunday 23 January) due to Omicron cases in the community, which are expected to increase in number across the coming weeks and months.
Information about what this means for using Rotorua Lakes Council services and facilities is here on Council’s website: COVID-19 Red traffic light information - Rotorua Lakes Council.
A reminder that vaccine passes are required for entry into Council facilities – see information about this at the above link.
A message from Mayor Chadwick:
We’ve had a fair amount of warning about Omicron coming into our communities so it was a matter of when, not if, and I expect that many people, including businesses, would have been gearing up and expecting a return to red.
Businesses can operate, with the right processes in place, and for individuals it is more important than ever to take those precautionary and preventive measures like washing hands, wearing masks, signing in wherever you go and getting tested and staying home if unwell.
If you’re vaccinated, make sure you get your booster and I encourage those not already vaccinated to please do so, for your own protection as well as that of your families and the community, particularly those who are vulnerable.
We’re also encouraged now to make sure we have a plan in case we get COVID in our household so check out the Unite Against COVID-19 website to find out what you’ll need.
With Omicron it’s about slowing its spread and we all have a role to play in minimising its impact on our community.
Let’s stick together and look out for one another.
