Council and Waka Kotahi have partnered to support the Ride Forever motorcycle safety programme, by covering participants’ entrance fees. 25 riders have participated in the silver & bronze courses so far, with more riders booked in for the coming months.
ACC is funding the cost of the Ride Forever on-road coaching courses in Rotorua, that are designed to enhance riders’ knowledge and confidence on the road, and to enable better road safety outcomes for riders and the community.
Ride Forever is the only nationally-certified rider coaching programme in New Zealand, offering a range of full and half day courses aimed at beginner, intermediate and advanced riders.
Advanced rider and participant in the silver course, Leigh-Ann, thought the course was invaluable.
“As seasoned riders, I know we came away with a new insight into the way we ride.”
Mackenzie, who is new to riding, felt the silver course was important for rider confidence.
“The day was filled with lots of knowledge at every step of the way. If I hadn't had gone on that course my cornering would still make me lose confidence but with the Ride Forever course, I've gained a lot more confidence and can corner like a pro."
In February, ACC ran the successful ‘Shiny Side Up’ Talk Series at Te Puia, where motorcycle experts hosted sessions on riding knowledge and tips. It was the highest attended Shiny Side Up series in NZ this year, demonstrating the importance of providing opportunities for local riders to improve their road safety skills.
