Carving space blessed
This morning a dawn service was held at Scion to mark new beginnings and partnerships with the rising of Matariki.
A karakia took place at dawn to open te tau hou (the new year) and the space where five pou will be carved for the Whakarewarewa and Tokorangi Forest development project was blessed. Grant Marunui of Hurungaterangi, will be carving the pou which will be placed along Long Mile Road.
The pou will form an integral part of the cultural overlay currently under development for the entire forest project. The cultural overlay will feature artworks and informative panels telling a story of duality and balance that connects past and present, tradition and innovation, tangata whenua and manuhiri.
