Long Mile Road upgrade in final stages of construction
The majority of the Long Mile Road upgrade is on track to be complete by the end of the year.
Campbell Infrastructure is currently working on the final stages of this upgrade which involves creating a roundabout at the end of Long Mile Road (bottom of Nursery Hill) which will improve both traffic flow and the entrance to Scion.
Following this, new bus and equestrian parking will be constructed at this end of Long Mile Road. This work was scheduled to begin in December but has been rescheduled for January to ensure the area is available for use over the busy Christmas and New Year period. The construction of these new parks will be the final piece of the upgrade.
Already the new shared path and car parks are being well used and we've received great feedback about Long Mile Road's fresh new look. Check out some of the latest photos below.
Meanwhile, work continues on the new forest and city cycle loops, which are being constructed as part of this project, and at the new forest hub off Tarawera Road (photos below). The forest hub is scheduled to be complete by May 2020. Still to come is an upgrade of the visitor centre at the Redwoods and a specifically designed cultural overlay for the entire project.
