Rain damage being monitored

Heavy rain in Rotorua has caused some surface flooding and minor damage in some areas.
Rotorua Lakes Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council staff and contractors are out and about monitoring stream levels and flood prone areas.
Stream gauges are in place and being monitored.
Contractors have this morning, been placing sandbags in low-lying areas of the Ngongotaha Stream on Western Road. This is a precautionary measure as stream levels are expected to subside.
Metservice has issued a heavy rain watch for Bay of Plenty including Rotorua, which is expected to ease by this afternoon.
Residents are urged to monitor the situation and let Council know of any weather related issues on 07 348 4199.
