September events in Civic Theatre
A $6 million revamp of the backstage area has turned the Rotorua Civic Theatre into a top notch venue for musical and stage shows.
Rotorua District Council will be actively promoting the improved facility to theatre and musical groups, show organisers and promoters with the aim of bringing a more diverse range of shows to the city.
The Rotorua Civic Theatre underwent a major backstage overhaul a few years ago and is now at the forefront of quality entertainment venues in New Zealand. Built in 1940, the venue had seen a number of changes and alterations in the past 60 years, however, some of the backstage equipment and facilities were in need of an upgrade to keep the theatre front of mind for event promoters. The redevelopment included a new, larger fly system and a complete upgrade of the dressing rooms.
This work has already been rewarded with Rotorua now included on the schedule for many key shows and events, such as the Royal New Zealand Ballet's Season of Giselle and the Acoustic Church Tour featuring Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith.
Upcoming events in September include:
- 7 Rotorua Music Federation - Pepe Becker & Helen Webby
- 8 Rotorua Has Talent
- 15 - 22 Jesus Christ Superstar
- 29 NZ Country Music Assn Entertainer of the Year 2012
- 30 OPUS Orchestra presents Connections
