Busy weekend of events for all at Rotorua Museum
This week Rotorua Museum celebrates the one year anniversary of the opening of the Don Stafford wing. With lots of events and exhibitions planned to interest and excite people of all ages, it is definitely the place to be this weekend!
Starting the weekend off is a talk by New Zealand Portrait Gallery director, Avenal McKinnon on Friday at 5.30pm. Sponsored by Friends of the Museum, the talk will take you into the world of the New Zealand Portrait Gallery which houses a fantastic collection of New Zealand art. Entry is free for members of the Friends, or $5 for non-members.
Later that evening it is time to get the kids and your torches and head into our galleries to explore. Museum by Torchlight will run on both Friday 7 and Saturday 8 September, from 6.30pm - 8.30pm, and offers the chance to come along after hours and see the Museum come alive!
Suitable for children from 0-12 years, there will be a range of craft activities, face-painting, story telling and lots more. Entry is by gold coin donation and bookings are required.
Friends of the Museum will be hosting a Bring and Buy Art Fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday to raise money for special projects around Rotorua Museum. Bring along any pre-loved art works you want to donate, then come back the next day to choose some new art at bargain prices. Art works can be dropped to the Rotorua Museum classroom on Saturday 8 September between 9.30am - 3.00pm. All of the donated works will be on sale the following day from 10.00am - 4.00pm.
The Haunts of Dickens exhibition, showcasing 58 watercolours by Paul Braddon, comes to an end on Sunday. So come in for your last chance to view this special exhibition which marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens (7 February 1812 - 9 June 1870).
Adult entry to Rotorua Museum is $18. Entry is free for Rotorua residents with ID.
