Explore some of our new forest amenities this summer
Get outdoors and explore some of our new forest amenities this summer.
Visit Te Pūtake o Tawa, the new forest hub at 516 Tarawera Road. The hub opened in October 2020 and provides an additional recreational access point to the forest. What was once only a small gravel car park, has been transformed into a brand new hub with capacity for 400+ vehicles, event spaces, brand new toilets, showers and bike washing facilities.
The Grøunded Café kiosk is on site at Te Pūtake o Tawa between 8am & 4pm Mon – Fri, and 8am – 5pm weekends, offering coffee, smoothies, cold drinks and snack food. Bike hire and food vendors will also be up and running in the New Year.
Or, you could check out the new shared path, roading, and parking facilities along Tītokorangi Drive (previously Long Mile Road) before heading into Whakarewarewa Forest for a bike ride, walk, or run.
These new amenities are part of the Whakarewarewa Forest Development. Learn more about this project at www.visiontoaction.nz
