7 September 2020

From tomorrow (September 8), tree felling at the entrance of the Rotorua Landfill on State Highway 30 may cause delays.

Tomorrow morning, stop/go traffic controls will be in place to manage traffic coming and going from Rotorua to Atiamuri, so expect minor delays on SH30 near the landfill’s entrance. This work should be complete by around midday.

Traffic controls will then move to the landfill site to manage vehicles coming and going from the landfill while tree felling is underway. Tree felling at the landfill will be ongoing until mid-September. This may cause longer wait times for people accessing landfill facilities during this time.

This work involves the removal of trees from along the fence line above the landfill, and next to the Tureporepo stream that runs through the site. Many of these trees are old and at risk of being broken or blown over by high winds or storms. The majority of the felled land will be replanted with new trees in the near future.
