In an effort to support local growers, and to continue to provide our community with fresh produce, the Rotorua Farmers Market will be trialling a limited offering this Sunday between 9am – 12pm.
It will take place in the Rainy Day Store located at 1180 Hinemoa Street and be limited to 5 - 6 growers only.
As well as Tahiatian limes and pumpkins
The numbers of shoppers will be limited in the space and careful cleaning and sanitising procedures will take place.
The decision to suspend the Rotorua Farmers Market was made earlier this week following Ministry of Health guidelines as an effective measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Ministry has advised that this decision will be regularly reviewed and Rotorua Lakes Council will continue to following the advice of health authorities in relation to COVID-19.
Update from Ministry of Health as at 19 March 2020:
Criteria for cancelling events
To slow the spread of COVID-19, gatherings of 500 people or more in close proximity outdoors, or 100 people or more indoors, will be cancelled. These measures will be regularly reviewed.
This applies to both public events such as concerts and private events such as weddings. Gatherings of any size need to assess the risk they pose to attendees and the community. See the ‘further guidance’ section for more information.
Work, school, and public transport are considered essential gatherings and do not need to be cancelled/closed.
It is not possible to provide a definitive list of what should be cancelled.
