Lakefront construction fencing update
The construction fencing along the lake edge is due to be extended on Monday next week (20 January).
HEB construction are working to install a new watermain within their construction zone so they can disconnect the existing watermain and continue with the necessary ground improvements to support the new boardwalk.
To do this, the current fence line will need to be extended to the edge of Walkway B as shown in the map below. This will mean the walkway will no longer be accessible and will remain inaccessible until all the work around the lake edge is complete. We will ensure there is clear signage to direct pedestrians to safe walkways and crossing points in the area. If walking through this area, please stick to the Volcanic Playground side of the car park and be mindful of moving vehicles.
While this work is underway, around 10 car parks in the area will also be within the construction zone (also shown in map below). These car parks will be available again once the watermain has been successfully installed (in approximately two weeks). Prior to Christmas, additional car parking space was made available on the grass area opposite the Soundshell and this will remain available for as long as possible.
HEB Construction are completing the first stage of the Rotorua lakefront development which involves the construction of a new boardwalk and terracing around the lake edge.
