Check out what’s been happening in a couple of our local communities . . .

New playground for Fordlands

It wouldn’t fit under a Christmas tree but the new playground at Wrigley Road reserve was a great present for the Fordlands community these holidays.

The new playground is part of the wider Ko Te Tuara Totara O Fordlands Reinvigoration programme that is underway to improve community facilities in the Fordlands neighbourhood. Collaborating closely with the community, and a range of other organisations, Council is working to reinvigorate the area with upgrades to the look and feel of the environment.

Rural community leads way with civil defence plan

Waikite Valley Civil Defence Group launched their new civil defence Community Response Plan at the Waikite Valley School prize giving earlier this month.

It is important for rural communities to have a plan in the event of a disaster or emergency that requires a community wide response, as access to emergency resources can become scarce or cut off by flooding, earthquakes or landslips, which may block main routes into town.
