The Governor-General, The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy and Sir David Gascoigne have finished their four-day visit to the Bay of Plenty with stops at Te Aka Mauri and the Government Gardens.
The visit, which encompassed Tauranga, Whakatane and Rotorua, began on Tuesday with a powhiri at Huria Marae in Tauranga.
Wednesday saw Dame Patsy and Sir David in Whakatane, where they spent time with young robotics students and student nurses working with hololens technology.
Te Papaiouru Marae was the venue for Dame Patsy’s official welcome to Rotorua yesterday. After, which she visited the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute at Te Puia.
Today began with a visit to the Fire and Emergency New Zealand National Training Centre before heading to Scion to find out more about their research into kauri dieback.
She then visited the innovative library and children’s healthcare hub Te Aka Mauri where she was treated to a tour of the building and a haka from students at Rotorua Primary School. Her final stop was to see the restored Te Arawa Soldiers’ Memorial in Government Gardens.
