Take extra care driving around the Rotorua district today, particularly in rural areas and roads prone to slips and treefall.
Sunday’s stormy weather resulted in treefalls and debris on roads around the Rotorua district. See latest information below - this will be updated as new information is received:
We can confirm that Hamurana Road at the State Highway 33 (Mourea) end will remain closed until at least tomorrow afternoon to enable crews to clear the road following treefalls and a slip that occurred during Sunday’s stormy weather.
Meanwhile, the two trees which fell on Te Akau Road at Okere Falls have been cleared.
Road crews will be out and about tomorrow (Tuesday) to inspect other roads around the district.
Please Call 07-348 4199 to report treefalls, slips, debris on roads and blocked drains and grates.
Hamurana Road will remain closed at the State Highway 33 (Mourea) end until further notice due to the slip and treefall that occurred about 1km from that intersection in last night’s stormy weather conditions.
A crew has been there since this morning working to clear the road, however there are more trees at the site which have been found to be at risk of coming down onto the road.
That means there is more work involved in clearing the road and it will not be completed today.
Additional resources are being brought in to assist with the work and the road will be re-opened as soon as possible.
Hamurana Road Closure
The State Highway 33 (Mourea) end of Hamurana Road was closed overnight due to a slip and a large tree which is blocking both lanes approximately 1km from the SH33 intersection. It was too dangerous for contractor crews to clear last night due to falling debris and remains closed this morning.
