Tarawera landing boat ramp repairs brought forward

3 April 2019

Planned work to replace the concrete boat ramp at Tarawera Landing will now take place next week.

From Monday 8 April contractors will be working to remove the old ramp and construct a new one in its place.

While the work takes place the ramp and jetty will be closed meaning boaties will need to launch down the road at either Boatshed Bay or Stoney Point.

Originally scheduled for late April, contractor availability and the deterioration of the current ramp has meant the work has been brought forward to next week. The early start date also means that the ramp will be fixed in time for the next school holiday period.

It is expected that the work will take about a week and, all going well, the jetty and ramp should be reopened by Friday 12 April.

Rotorua Lakes Council has set out $2 million in the 2018-2028 Long-term Plan to enhance lakes infrastructure. Other planned enhancements include:

  • upgrades at Lake Ōkareka to the facilities at Boyes Beach and Acacia Bay. This includes replacing the existing boat ramp with a new three lane ramp which is likely to start later this month (closures will be in place while the work is carried out)

  • Upgrades to toilets at Matahi Spit (Rotoma)

  • Ohau channel boat ramp and car park upgrades
