Two weeks ago more than a hundred students marched to Rotorua Lakes Council to show their dedication to making changes to the way our country deals with Climate Change.

Elected members, led by Sustainable Living Portfolio lead Councillor Tania Tapsell, met with the students and heard their pleas for change.

At the meeting elected members and Council staff were able to discuss some of the movements the organisation has made towards mitigating the risks of climate change such as joining the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy, changing the way Rotorua deals with its waste and undertaking a carbon inventory.

This week staff from across Council and elected members were involved in workshops that will help pool knowledge from different functions in the first steps to developing a draft Rotorua climate change action plan.

Councillor Tapsell explains below what work Rotorua Lakes Council has been undertaking within the Sustainable Living Portfolio.
