More than 250,000 people are now registered to take part in New Zealand's biggest ever earthquake drill, New Zealand ShakeOut.

The target is to have 1 million involved in the earthquake drill at 9:26am, 26 September (9:26-26:9).
"With more than two months to the drill we are well on the way to our target but there is still a long way to 1 million," the Director of Civil Defence Emergency Management, John Hamilton said.

"Along with many individuals and families, it is great to see companies registering and taking the opportunity to look at their corporate emergency preparedness."

Powerco was one of the very first registrations when the campaign began, and has been joined by some of New Zealand's biggest and best known companies, including Fonterra, The Warehouse, Air New Zealand and many others.

"Everyone is welcome - individuals, families, and organisations, big, medium and small - and they are needed if we are going to have 1 million people involved."

It's easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Sign up now - go to www.getthru.govt.nz (it takes only two minutes).
  2. Spread the word (share with friends, family and workmates via word of mouth, Facebook, Twitter, email and other methods).
  3. Do the drill Drop, Cover and Hold drill on 9:26-26:9.
