Topic: Clayton Rd Extension flooding
Enquiry
I have just spoken to a resident on Clayton Rd extension who said there has been flooding issues since she has lived there in the last 12 years. She said it is every time there is heavy rain.
She has asked council multiple times in that time to do something and while she says there have been some efforts these were "botched" and nothing changed.
She says council and the mill behind the extension were in dispute about who was responsible/owned the road.
She said it did not drain quickly enough and in heavy rain could sit there for days and she could not get out of her driveway in her car.
She suggested another drain on her side of the road might help.
She said it pooled on either side of the road as there was a hump down the middle of it.
She says the water comes down Clayton Rd and pools at the bottom of the extensions, bringing with it silt, rubbish and leaves.
May I have a response to her comments please?
May I also ask how many times in the last 12 years has council worked on the extension to sort out flooding?
How many times has it been informed of the flooding?
Are there any potential flooding solutions on this road and have they been explored? What are they and what would it cost?
What is the section past the fence at the end of the extension road?
Any other comment?
Response
From Eric Cawte, Manager Infrastructure Networks Performance:
Council is aware of issues with water ponding at the end of the Clayton Rd Extension and is investigating options for new drainage to take water away from where it currently ponds. This work is in early stages of investigation – cost won’t be known until we determine what will be done.
Re work undertaken during the past 12 years: Work has been undertaken here in May 2010, August 2014, May 2021, December 2021 and most recently February/March 2022 which involved reshaping and sealing and removal of vegetation to aid drainage.
Re calls about flooding here during the past 12 years: Our Requests for Service (RFS) records show 6 calls from two households during the past 12 years, 3 from same household on 8 Feb 2022.
Re the area at the end of the extension: The legal road extends for a short distance past the end of the sealed road, followed by property occupied by the sawmill.
Other info:
Council owns the road. The sawmill site is privately owned.
Current staff are unaware of any “dispute” with the mill.

Topic: Whakarewarewa Village road collapse
Enquiry
I was wondering if there is anyone to get update from on the situation of Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village
Where is the investigation up to?
Is the village open?
Are there any precautions taking place after last week's incident?
Could there be any charges for what has happened?
We have heard there was steam seen in the vicinity of where the incident happened beforehand?
Response
Council information to date and latest update is HERE on our website. There is nothing further at this stage. The focus has to date been on safety of the site and repairs.
You’ll find the Whakarewarewa village website HERE
You will need to contact Work Safe re its investigations.
