Topic: Roadworks on local Rotorua roads
Enquiry
Just hoping you might be able to help me out with the following.
All road works currently taking place across the city that the council is responsible for overlooking. It'd be great to have the following for each site:
- Where is the work taking place?
- What work is being done/what will be achieved by the work?
- When did the work start and when is it due to end?
- If there are any delays, how far behind schedule is it?
- And if there are any road/lane closures or stop/gos can you please let me know too?
Can you please get back to me with these before the close of business tomorrow or thereabouts. Please let me know if this won't work for you.
Response
A spreadsheet was provided to the reporter with details about roadworks currently underway and being overseen by Council [see HERE]
Additional information provided: Note that even though the resealing work will be completed early this week, sweeping and linemarking is undertaken afterwards once the seal has set.

Topic: Latin American Fiesta
Enquiry
I’m working on a story for this week’s Weekender about the Latin American Fiesta coming up at the night market next week.
I do have Eduardo Diaz’s number, but thought I would send through some questions for a couple comments from the night market team too:
- How does it feel to be having the night market’s first cultural celebration of 2022 next week?
- Why is it special and important for the night market to help showcase the different cultures in our community?
- Why would you encourage people to come along to the Latin American Fiesta next Thursday?
Response
From Council’s, Arts & Culture, Communications & Marketing Lead, Kathy Nicholls:
How does it feel to be having the night market’s first cultural celebration of 2022 next week?We are so excited! We love working with the local Latin American community because they are so passionate about their culture. It has been a tough time for events over the last few months and it is great that we are starting 2022 with a burst of Latin energy and fun!
Why is it special and important for the night market to help showcase the different cultures in our community?Rotorua has such a diverse community and we want to showcase as many cultures as possible to foster understanding and allow people to enjoy unique experiences.
Why would you encourage people to come along to the Latin American Fiesta next Thursday? What’s not to love – vibrant colours, dancing, music and food! It is going to be a great night!
It would be great to remind people that they need have a My Vaccine Certificate to enter Rotorua Night Market, to scan in and wear a mask to keep everyone safe. And the Rotorua Night Market is located at the Rotorua Village Green.
