Background

Mid 2011 Council requested an assessment of business plans around two implementation structures to drive the implementation of the Rotorua Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy.  

  • a Council-Controlled Organisation model (CCO) and
  • a Hybrid Committee of council model

On 15 November 2011 council agreed to establish a Council-Controlled Organisation model (CCO) to drive implementation of the Rotorua Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy.

      

Grow Rotorua Ltd - Statement of Core Purpose

PURPOSE:  Grow Rotorua Ltd’s prime purpose is to drive the implementation of Grow Rotorua's role as identified in the Rotorua Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy for the Rotorua district, one of New Zealand’s iconic destinations. This includes to:

Understand the Rotorua economic investment opportunities for the following sectors:

  • Forest industry
  • Tourism
  • Geothermal and other sources of renewable energy
  • Agriculture (including land-use management/change)

Within the above sectors:

  • Develop logically robust investment value propositions
  • Communicate and promote new propositions to the investment community
  • Facilitate private sector investment
  • Identify and propose solutions for the barriers to creating investment wealth 
  • Understand and promote to the local education sector the capability and skills required

Rotorua District Council has announced the appointment of five directors for the inaugural board of the new CCO (council controlled organisation) tasked with driving the district’s future economic development for the next three years.

The board members are John Green (chair), Dr Warren Parker, Jane Nees, Michael Barnett, Tony Marks, Hemi Rolleston and Gina Rangi.

Rotorua mayor Kevin Winters said the five board members appointed to date provide Rotorua with a very high-powered, well connected and hugely experienced resource.
