Māori Language Week
Kia ora rā Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. (Māori Language Week).
This year's theme is Kia kaha te reo Māori (Let's make the Māori language strong), which runs from 10 - 16 September, 2018.
Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu. No matter how small your contribute:
- whether you make a conscious effort to say 'kia ora' or 'mōrena'; or
- hang Māori signage around the office
Your contribution helps advance the Rotorua Reorua movement. You can learn more about our district's journey or get helpful language by visiting the Rotorua Reorua webpage.
What have you got planned for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori?
The maramataka (calendar) provides an overview of the events and activities that have been organised for this week including presentations, plays, movies and a parade.
Your participation in kaupapa (events) for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori helps to grow and advance our commitment to Rotorua Reorua, which is being led by Te Tatau o Te Arawa with support from Rotorua Lakes Council and Te Puni Kōkiri.
Rotorua declared its commitment on the 11th of August 2017 to become the country's first bilingual city and district.
So what have we achieved over the past 12 months?
- A number of businesses and groups have adopted bilingual signage
- We have opened the district's first bilingual playground
You can read more about what we've achieved in the following story:
