The Rotorua community is enormously enriched by the volunteer efforts of many individuals and organisations who are dedicated to improving the wellbeing of our local residents. These people and groups
are often unsung heroes who generously help make Rotorua a better place to live, yet they seek nothing in return other than the satisfaction of knowing they have made a real difference.
The council participates in a number of community awards programmes that acknowledge some of these community heroes and which provide an opportunity to express the community's appreciation of their valuable contributions to society. The Rotorua Lakes Council Community Awards (for individual volunteers) and the Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community Awards (for volunteer organisations) are two such award programmes held annually.
Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community Awards
The Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community Awards, run by Trustpower in partnership with Rotorua Lakes Council, were introduced in 1994 to recognise the outstanding contribution voluntary organisations make to our community. Trustpower sponsors prizes for the five categories which are Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, Education and Child/Youth Development.
To celebrate 25 years of Trustpower Community Awards this year, the prizes will double to $1000 for a local winner, $2000 for a Regional Supreme winner up from $1500 last year.
