CCTV in Rotorua
Council's Safe City Guardian team plays an important role in safety, deterrence and crime prevention through the use of CCTV cameras located at strategic locations around the city in conjunction with our partner agencies such as the NZ Police.
The Safe City Guardian team responds to more than 500 incidents a year. A majority of these incidents are identified using live CCTV footage.
Continuous monitoring of live CCTV footage allows the Safe City team to respond to incidents as they are happening making for a safer CBD for our community.
Requesting CCTV footage
When there is reason to believe that an incident has occurred, an authorised Council office may review any relevant CCTV footage.
Any CCTV footage that could assist in the detection of an incident may be made available to the police or a member of the public.
As the owner of the footage, Rotorua Lakes Council has full discretion to decline a request if key criteria are not met. Council officers can talk through this criteria with you on request.
These processes are to ensure Council complies with its legal obligations and expectations of the Privacy Commissioner.

To request CCTV footage please email cctv.request@rotorualc.nz or phone 07 348 4199.
A Customer Advisor will take your details to be passed on to the Safe City team who will process your request.
