About this portfolio

An important part of our Rotorua 2030 goals is a commitment to environmental leadership with a key priority is to support reinvigorated neighbourhoods and the creation of healthy homes.

Sustainable Living Strategy

The Rotorua Sustainable Living Strategy – Toitū te oranga o Rotorua has been developed within the Portfolio. This work was led by the portfolio steering group, with input from a wide variety of groups and individuals in the community to provide a community view – He hāpori rautaki, he korero a te iwi.

The draft strategy (see below) covers a wide range of sustainable living issues including housing, waste management, the environment and community resilience, health and wellbeing. There are six key objectives with supporting strategies and actions.

You can read the e-book version (see below) of the strategy or pick up a hard copy from Council.

Rotorua is now a 'leading' city in the programme, working towards becoming an 'innovating city'.

A "City Scan" tool which is part of the cities programme was used as the basis for consultation to develop the Sustainable Living Strategy.
