7 December 2017
The district’s bilingual initiative, Rotorua Reorua, is set to take another step forward with a business case and proposed work plan now completed.
These are being presented at today’s [Thursday 7 December] Strategy, Policy & Finance Committee hui/meeting when committee members will be asked for their endorsement.
Council has previously given its support to the initiative, which is being led by Te Tatau o Te Arawa, with assistance from Te Puni Kokiri
A report to the committee says the business for Rotorua Reorua is informed by both local and international examples of bilingualism and the business case highlights the potential economic impact.
A two-phase work plan is proposed with phase one including a 90-day plan focussed on immediately increasing the visibility and impact of bilingualism in Rotorua city. The report notes some of these initiatives are already underway.
Phase two proposes developing a comprehensive strategy alongside the community to ensure sustainability of Rotorua Reorua.
