Parks Week 2017

  • Art in the Park - cancelled
  • Reeme Street working bee - postponed to Wednesday 15 March

Parks play a vital role in creating liveable cities and thriving communities. They are our most frequented spaces for recreational activities and provide opportunities for conservation and the social interaction that is vital for a connected and resilient community.

Each year council looks to celebrate Rotorua's many parks and recreation areas by organising a week of free, fun events for the community to take part in.

Rotorua's first Magical Park

Rotorua residents will have the chance to take part in an extra-special activity during Parks Week 2017.

For a week from Saturday 4 March Rotorua’s Centennial Park will become a mixed reality game world where players can explore the park while immersed in a digital fantasy.

Played on smart devices the games are designed to encourage people, especially those who are more tech-minded, to get outside and enjoy their local open spaces while playing the motion games

Magical Park will be available from Saturday 4 March to Sunday 12 March (extended until Monday 20 March). Centennial Park opening hours are 8am - 8pm daily.

How to play:

Step 1 - Download "Magical Park" free from Google Play or the App store. Game works on smart phones and devices including iPhone 5 and up, iPad 3 and up, and Android devices

Step 2 - Go to Centennial Park - entry from Kotuku Street or Mokoia Drive. Walk to the game start point in the middle of the park

Step 3 - turn on the location services and mobile data on your phone or device (uses 50kb of data)
