Rotorua Pound
Ownership Criteria
Potential owners must want a dog and be prepared to commit themselves to the dog for possibly up to 15 years. They must have a property that is either fully or partially fenced so as to provide a reasonable sized exercise area. Should they intend to keep the dog outside, a suitable waterproof kennel or kennel/run combination is also necessary.
What we require:
- A property check to ensure it is suitable e.g. adequate fencing, a kennel suitable for the size of the dog etc
- A dog owner history check will be carried out.
Adoption fees are as follows:
- Female - $168.00 (covers Parvovirus vaccination, desexing and microchip)
- Male - $118.65 (covers Parvovirus vaccination, desexing and microchip)
- Dogs already desexed - $102.90 (covers Parvovirus vaccination and microchip)
All dogs are required to be registered with Council annually and this will be an additional cost for the new owner.
Central City Vets de-sexes the dogs that are re-homed through the pound, and offers discounts for their first vaccinations along with discounted flea and worm treatments. Re-homed dogs are registered and microchipped at the time of adoption and this is done at the pound.
*Rotorua Lakes Council reserves the right to refuse adoption where necessary.
Location:
The Rotorua Pound is located at 210 State Highway 30, Horohoro, just past the Rotorua landfill. If you head out of Rotorua towards Taupo (SH5), take the Tokoroa (SH30) turn off on the right, then drive about 1km up the road. It is the next driveway past the Transfer Station (landfill).
